Lili Ilieva
Head of Adaptation
Lili Ilieva is a climate change specialist with more than 8 years of experience in climate adaptation and ecosystem management. She has an excellent understanding of analytical approaches to assess socio-ecological systems’ vulnerability and design strategies for adaptation and resilience building. Lili has experience in designing, managing and evaluating projects and consultancies in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe, related to integrated water resource management, risk reduction, Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA), agroforestry and gender analysis.
Recently, as part of a CTCN-funded initiative, Lili provided Technical Assistance to the National Agency for Protected Areas in Peru on mainstreaming EbA in planning processes and project formulation.
Previously, Lili worked as a thematic leader in adaptation to climate change and disaster risk reduction for Practical Action – Latin America Regional Office. She coordinated and moderated the Knowledge Platform and Community of Practice on EbA and National Adaptation Plans for Latin America and the Caribbean, working in partnership with Regatta – UN Environment. She has a solid understanding of best practices of EbA in the Latin American context and experience in capacity building on this topic. Lili was the coordinator and lecturer in the e-course and face-to-face workshop tailored for public officials on “Mainstreaming of EbA in planning processes and public investments” implemented in Peru under the GIZ project “Mainstreaming EbA – Strengthening EbA in planning and decision-making processes.” Also, Lili was an education specialist leading the elaboration of guidelines for conducting effective research on EbA and teaching modules to integrate EbA in secondary education.
She has earned a Ph.D. in Science and Management of Climate Change from the University of Venice (Italy) and an M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom).
