Maria Eugenia Recio

Dr. Maria Eugenia Recio has a PhD in law, and is an international lawyer specialized in environmental and climate change law. Recio has worked both in the public and private sectors; in international organizations, such as UNEP, and international NGOs, such as the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), but also at the national level in both developed and developing countries. She accrues 20 years of rich and varied experiences in the field of environmental law that combine on-the-ground work in Latin American and Caribbean countries; partnership and collaboration with local legal experts; and rigorous international academic research at the University of Eastern Finland. In the past years, Recio’s has focused on land tenure, indigenous peoples and local communities, international safeguards and standards by financing initiatives (World Bank, GCF), and REDD+. More lately, Recio is working on short-lived climate pollutants and international and national legal frameworks to address them.
