The Latin America and the Caribbean Division (LAC) within the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) are working towards further mainstreaming environment and climate change into IFAD’s projects. To pursue this effort, the project “Building up Gender Sensitive Nature Based Solutions (NBS) in IFAD projects” has been approved. The main goal of the project is to promote the implementation of Gender Transformative NBS in IFAD projects in the LAC region, providing support and capacity building on the design and implementation, as well as creating guidelines.
Main tasks:
- Identify best practices of NBS with gender transformative approach to address climate change and other societal challenges in IFAD projects in LAC;
- Review the applicable ongoing IFAD projects in LAC to determine and identify those in which the implementation of NBS would be the most beneficial and feasible, and, in accordance with Country Directors and regional experts, jointly select two projects in which to implement the recommended activities;
- Promote the incorporation of NBS with gender transformative approach to address climate change in LAC teams and IFAD staff;
- Introduce the tools created, and provide guidance, knowledge and training, as well as testing the tools to ensure adequate performance and alignment to the country context;
- Deliver capacity building workshops on NBS to address climate change, and ways in which to successfully incorporate them into IFAD projects in LAC;
- Develop a manual on how to successfully incorporate NBS to address climate change and other societal challenges in IFAD projects during both the project design and implementation stages.
Main outputs:
- Three capacity-building workshops, one in each LAC hub (Panama, Peru and Brazil), on design and integration of NBS into IFAD projects;
- Manual with guidelines on how to successfully implement NBS to address climate change in both the design stage and implementation stage of IFAD projects in the region.
