The project "Support to Ecuador for the Design and Evaluation of Interventions of the Amazon Initiative," led by MAATE, aims to combat deforestation in the Ecuadorian Amazon, aligning efforts with the IDB’s Amazon Vision. This technical cooperation strengthens the REDD+ Action Plan "Forests for Good Living" and supports Ecuador’s climate goals by empowering indigenous communities through their Life Plans to promote sustainable forest management, restoration, and conservation.

AAE’s team will lead the implementation of this technical assistance, which is set to last for eight months. The IDB will manage the technical assistance in coordination with MAATE, focusing on strengthening local governments and indigenous nations in Zamora Chinchipe and Morona Santiago.

Key interventions include legal land tenure advice, timber and hunting regulations, ecological restoration, capacity-building, and sustainable tourism support for Shuar communities. The project integrates intercultural and intergenerational approaches, aligning with Ecuador’s broader climate change initiatives such as PROAmazonía and REM Ecuador.
