The Salonga National Park, located in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is filled with dense forest home to species-rich flora and fauna as well as populations of globally important bonobos and forest elephants. WWF has been working here since 2003, along with other NGOs, to provide technical support to the Congolese park authority ICCN (Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature) in certain aspects of park management.
AAE will identify social and environmental risks and impacts of WWF’s interventions in the landscape through a targeted Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and develop an Environmental and Social Mitigation Framework (ESMF) to help ensure that all WWF interventions in the Salonga Landscape are aligned with WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF).
