Conservation International (CI) is working on the development of public and private partnerships for climate change adaptation and mitigation through the protection of mangroves and wetlands along the coast of Ecuador to be presented to the Green Climate Fund for funding. AAE in consortium with Centro Internacional para la Investigación del Fenómeno de El Niño (CIIFEN) are working on the development of the full project proposal and all its annexes to be presented to the Green Climate Fund.
Main tasks
- Mangrove Ecosystem baseline assessment;
- Vulnerability assessment for mangrove ecosystems;
- Vulnerability assessment of existing policies and institutions;
- An assessment of existing funding mechanisms in Ecuador;
- Funding needs assessment for the project’s key geographies;
- Summary of the scoping and feasibility of identified funding opportunities and mechanisms;
- Stakeholder consultations;
- Development of project logical framework;
- Gender Assessment;
- Limited environmental and social risk assessment in line with applicable safeguards;
- Final funding proposal.
Main outputs
- Baseline study on quantified carbon emissions, vulnerability and projected referenced climate change impacts;
- Innovative finance mechanisms for mangrove conservation and feasibility studies;
- Development of the GCF Funding full proposal for the project: Building resilient coastal communities and mitigating carbon emissions through public-private partnerships in mangrove and wetland restoration;
- Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) including a project-specific grievance redress mechanism (GRM), stakeholder engagement plan and a specific annexed management plans;
- Gender Action Plan and Economic and Financial Feasibility.
