The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), with support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the French Global Environmental Facility (FFEM), is implementing the Caribbean Regional Architecture for Biodiversity (CRAB) Project. This initiative aims to strengthen the financial and operational capacities of National Conservation Trust Funds (NCTFs) across nine Caribbean countries, ensuring sustainable funding mechanisms for biodiversity conservation.

The project focuses on preparing roadmaps and strategies for mobilizing sustainable national financing for conservation efforts. Key deliverables include conducting participatory diagnostics of financing opportunities, feasibility studies on resource mobilization, and the development of operational roadmaps and fundraising strategies for selected NCTFs. This initiative supports a robust framework for resource generation, including innovative financing mechanisms such as green taxes, blue bonds, payment for ecosystem services, and tourism contributions.

The consultancy involves a mix of virtual and in-country activities, with a focus on collaboration between stakeholders, NCTFs, and the CBF. This work will empower NCTFs to implement effective financing strategies, ensuring a sustainable flow of resources to protect the region’s rich biodiversity and natural resources while addressing conservation funding challenges.
