The Global Environment Facility (GEF) envisages eleven Integrated Programs (IP) within the scope of its eighth financing and programming cycle. The Ecosystem Restoration IP seeks to generate multiple environmental and socio-economic benefits by applying integrated approaches for the restoration of degraded ecosystems. These projects can include activities such as reforestation, mangrove recovery, coral restoration and the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices.
Restoration, a key nature-based solution, has both economic and environmental benefits. It helps to secure the livelihoods of local communities while safeguarding ecosystem services, such as soil protection, pollination, nutrient cycling, and soil water holding capacity.
AAE has been contracted by Conservation International (CI), the lead agency, to formulate the global program for the complete GEF cycle. AAE will deliver a realistic and gender sensitive Theory of Chance (TOC) and a project framework document through a participative consultative process. This multi-stakeholder and systems-based process will enhance performance at the portfolio level and integrate the best thinking on ecosystem restoration.
